Our Veterinarians

Dr. Victoria Joseph

Born and raised in California, Dr. Joseph received her DVM degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis in 1983. She attained her board certification in Avian Medicine and Surgery in 1995.

Dr. Joseph is board certified in avian medicine and surgery and has 20+ years of experience in treating birds of prey, more than any other veterinarian in Roseville or Placer County. Not only does she attend to the needs of the birds of prey that are brought into our animal clinic, she also works at Idexx Veterinary Laboratories as an avian consultant for other veterinarians, and oversees the medical needs of the raptors arriving at the California Foundation for Birds of Prey, a non-profit organization that cares for injured raptors.

Dr. Joseph and her husband, Andy, share their home with 3 dogs, a parrot, and many raptors. Her favorite hobbies are bird watching and fly-fishing.


Dr. Gary Forney

Dr. Forney is a life-long California native who received his DVM degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis in 1983. After graduating he practiced veterinary medicine for 12 years in Modesto. In 1995 he moved to Roseville and joined Dr. Joseph as partner and co-owner of The Bird & Pet Clinic.

Dr. Forney’s professional interests include small animal medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Outside of the clinic he enjoys snow skiing, bicycling and traveling with his family. Dr. Forney and his wife, Carol, have two daughters, Colleen and Janna, their dog Hoppy, Bearded Dragon Atilla and Charlie the rat.


Dr. Amy Maskey

Dr. Maskey moved to California from Michigan in 2015. She drinks pop, not soda :). She received her BS and MS degrees from Northern Michigan University, and her DVM from Michigan State University. After graduation, she completed an internship in Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery in south Florida and has worked with all kinds of animals, from tarantulas to monkeys. She has a special interest in avian medicine and surgery, and is working towards board certification. She shares her life with a crazy Moluccan Cockatoo, a mellow Blue and Gold Macaw, 3 wonderful cats, and a tank full of freshwater fish. She enjoys the outdoors, birdwatching, fishing, boating, and the California sun.


Dr. Corinne Popke

Dr. Corinne Popke graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 1995 and has been working at the Bird and Pet Clinic since 1997.

The Popkes’ have a large number of pets, ranging from stick bugs to Harris hawks. Dr. Popke has accumulated these pets from a multitude of rescue efforts over the years. Her husband and three children are very adept at helping to care for all the animals.

In her spare time Dr. Popke enjoys spending time with her family. She is also an active falconer, having flown her Harris’ hawk for the past 17 years.


Dr. Jessica Poindexter

Dr. Poindexter joined the Bird and Pet Clinic after graduating from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She began her college education at the University of Idaho where she joined AFROTC while earning her Bachelor’s degree, and then served in the US Air Force after graduation. When she completed her service commitment, Dr. Poindexter decided to separate from the Air Force and pursue her true passion, veterinary medicine, by returning to school.

Dr. Poindexter’s professional interests include acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and integrating them with western medicine. Dr. Poindexter is currently working on completing her certification in veterinary acupuncture. She has traveled to China and Florida to complete hands on acupuncture training courses. She lives in Roseville with her Green Cheek Conure, Tris.


Dr. Samantha Ford

For as long as she could remember, Dr. Samantha Ford has wanted to be a veterinarian. She earned her DVM from Iowa State University, and traveled all over South and Central America treating exotic animals through study abroad programs. Dr. Ford loves being part of our team, and she especially enjoys sharing positive news to pet owners when their pet is finally on the mend after weeks or months of difficult treatment. Dr. Ford is married to her high school sweetheart, Trevor, and in her free time she loves to go hiking, birdwatching, swimming, and fishing.


Dr. Kerstin Amend

Dr. Kerstin Amend has loved animals all her life, and from a young age she knew she wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She studied Zoo Medicine at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and earned her DVM in 2017. Dr. Amend feels that the most rewarding part of her career is ensuring animals live the best life possible. Whether she is helping pets overcome illnesses, or she’s providing client education, she believes that improving an animal’s quality of life is always gratifying. Dr. Amend has three pets – a German shepherd named Leala, an orange tabby named Scarlet, and a guinea pig named Maisie. In her free time, Dr. Amend loves playing soccer, spending time outdoors, and cooking.
